ABOUT ME

I was born in Berkeley, raised in Los Angeles, went to college, met my wife and started my career in New Orleans, and have lived in Washington DC for 16 years now.

I have a killer Kerouac collection and love to cook for others. I spent a few years founding a DC United supporters group (District Ultras) and making their tifo. I wish I had more time to spend over at CHAW in their darkroom, but free time that I have is better with the family so you are more likely to find us looking at stuff in the Natural History Museum. Spending time with my wife and two knuckle-headed sons is my favorite thing in the world. I especially like adding random 90’s hip-hop lyrics into my oldest’s lexicon.

My career in hospitality started on a bit of a fluke, as I was an independent photographer with a darkroom set up in his apartment bathroom who was only looking for a job with health insurance when I showed up to interview at the Ritz-Carlton, New Orleans, but like so many others in our industry, I fell in love with it. Every day was something different and crazy (especially in New Orleans), but everyone there had an uncommon desire to help others and solve problems. It was an amazing learning experience and led me to the sales world, but my skill was always the same. I can understand other peoples’ perspectives and needs and I have a desire to get people what they need.

I manage the Hilton relationship with 72 national associations in the DMV. In addition to problem solving for my clients, I am here to source the rfps to the best hotels for our clients needs and to bring my insight to the hotels proposals for maximum impact.

2011-2016

This was my first national sales role, and the transition was eye opening. Rather than selling one property for every client need I had far more solutions in my tool box and my focus could shift to gaining deeper understanding of my clients to make sure I was sourcing the right hotels.

I managed an eight person group sales team. I wrote the incentive plan along with the Director of Finance, I ran daily business review meetings, and managed an account list that covered all industries from the West, Southeast. This was a very tough year, but looking back I am glad I learned a lot about my leadership style while working these twelve hour days six to seven days a week.
